The first In the Lab blog focuses on blending solids into a high viscosity liquid (>75,000 cps; e.g., toothpaste, peanut butter, silicone sealant, lard). This is one of the more difficult mixing applications. Under these conditions, the mixer is operating under a laminal flow regime.

large diameter configuration to provide top to bottom circulation while operating in high viscosity, laminar fluid regimes. It is very important to have good surface movement to draw down the solids into this high viscosity material.
The following video shows the ProQuip lab demonstration of this application. The Doubly-Pitched HiFlow impeller is mounted in the center of our laboratory scale dish bottom tank. The tank was filled with an approximately 75,000 cps high viscosity liquid. Colored beads were added to aid in visualizing fluid flow. Solids were then added from the top of the vessel. The solids, as shown, were well blended into this fluid.
The result . . . a satisfied customer who purchased ProQuip agitators for production of their high viscosity material.
